ICMC 2018 invites you to a special “music hackathon” that will take place during the week of the conference!
Our hack theme is as the conference theme: Preserve | Engage | Advance
Come One, Come All!

* Hack challenges
Join us and our mentor team in Daegu to brainstorm ideas with other hackers or bring unfinished projects! We will focus on three thematic ICMC hack challenges : (1) Computer Music Heritage, (2) Soundscape Heritage, (3) “Asteriks”

Computer Music Heritage Program
Preservation/visualization/exploration around computer music based on ICMC artworks presented and archived starting this year. A type of “million song piece dataset,” where we utilize conference peer-review mechanisms for collecting media, metadata, and other rich data types.

Soundscape Heritage Program
As part of this year’s ICMC we are launching an effort to “soundmap our world” and we will provide access to data from sound sensors deployed at various places around the world. The ultimate goal of this program is to create real-time soundmaps in the context of acoustic ecology, soundscape preservation, and noise pollution mitigation in urban areas.

Experience, Art and Biz that involves any topic in sound and/or music.

* Experience
Brainstorm new formats & designs, create crowd-engagement concepts for live performances or develop new ideas to play & interact with music – anything that changes the experience of playing music.

* Art
Use technology to drive your inspiration and make some noise – data sonification / controllerism / sensors & music visualization – this category is as free as only art can be – take your art to the next-tech-level.

* Biz
Create industry-changing prototypes – invent a new business venture that helps musicians grow and prosper / develop a new tool or service made for musicians or music lovers / come up with a new idea to re-invent the music industry / reconnect with talents and audiences – here we try to make music an even better business.

Three winning teams/individuals in the three challenge categories totalling $2,200.
